ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for the Foreign National Student Internship Program, applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria: 

  1. Minimum Age: Students must be at least 18 years old at the time of participation in the program. 
  2. Citizenship/Legal Residence: This program is only open to students who are either citizens or permanent legal residents of Sri Lanka. 
  3. Meet Definition of Student: Applicants must have graduated from High School or completed Higher Secondary Education (G.C.E. Advanced Level) and must be enrolled in a government/private university or other accredited educational institution. 
  4. Transcript and Permission: Applicants must be in good academic standing at their current educational institution and must provide a certified transcript verifying this.  Applicants must also provide written permission from the educational institution at which they are currently enrolled to participate in this program. 
  5. Medical & Security Certification: Applicants must receive a successful medical and security certification from Embassy Health Unit and Regional Security Office prior to beginning the program. 
  6. Standard of Conduct: Interns are expected to adhere to the same standard of conduct and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principals as regular employees.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

To be considered eligible, the prospective Student must provide the following documents listed below: 

  1. Statement of Interest Form. Click here to download the Statement of Interest Form
  2. Gratuitous Service Agreement. Click here to download the Gratuitous Service Agreement
  3. Official transcripts (attested) from the current educational institute as proof of good academic standing. Original official transcript will be required if student is selected.
  4. Written permission addressed to the U.S. Embassy (Human Resources Office) from the educational institution to participate in the FNSIP and letters of recommendation, as applicable. Original letter will be required if student is selected.
  5. Proof of Citizenship (Copy of National Identity Card/Passport) or Legal Residence Permit.  

HOW TO APPLY

All required documents MUST be submitted as a complete package via e-mail to ColomboFNSIP@state.gov prior to the closing date of the internship announcement.  

Any incomplete application package submitted will not be considered as eligible and for further review.
