Regular Entry

A student may enter the degree program at different levels depending on the qualifications they have obtained as shown in Table 1

Level 1An applicant may be considered for Admission to the BIT degree program, if he/she has:Three passes in the G.C.E. (AIL) examination in one sitting and a credit pass for Mathematics in the G.C.E (O/L) examination.Any other academic qualification, equivalent to 1 or higher, approved by the Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty BoardAny other qualification from a Professional Institution approved by the Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Board.A candidate who has obtained at least 6 passes in not more than two sittings and a credit pass in Mathematics at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination and a full-time Diploma/Certificate or higher qualification of at least 1-year duration from a recognized institution to have satisfied the entry criteria under section 2 above. (Applicants who do not qualify under section 1 must pass the Aptitude Test conducted by the Faculty)
Level 2To be considered for admission to the Degree program at the Level 2 an applicant must successfully complete the Diploma Programme (i.e., Level 1).
Level 3To be considered for admission to the Degree programme at Level 3 an applicant must successfully complete the Higher Diploma Programme (i.e.,the Level 2).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING THE ONLINE APPLICATION

1. You must upload the certified copies of the following on the request and must produce the originals at the verification interview.

  • Birth Certificate
  • Photocopy of the ID Card/details page of Passport
  • G.C.E. (O/L) Certificate
  • G.C.E. (A/L) Certificate
  • Copy of bank slip after paying the application fee Rs 1,000 (Application fee of Rs. 1,000/- should be paid to University of Moratuwa account No. 70993353 at any branch of the Bank of Ceylon)
  • Other Academic Certificates

2. Other Academic Qualification: (Applicants who expect to seek admission from alternative qualifications other than A/L shall indicate details of such alternative qualifications for consideration. ( For the alternative qualifications visit www.codl.lk > “BIT@UOM” page)

3. Please note that candidates who do not have 3 passes in G.C.E. (A/L) or equivalent and seek admission through alternative qualifications should pass the Aptitude Test conducted by the University.

The qualifications accepted by the university in place of (an alternative) the 03 passes at G. C. E.  (A/L) exam are-

At least 06 passes in not more than two sittings and a credit pass in Mathematics at the GCE (O/Lexamination and a full-time Diploma / Certificate or higher qualification of at least 1 year duration from a recognized institution.

The Senate has so far approved the following institutes / programs/ qualifications:

•     Public sector universities

•     National Institute of Business Management (NIBM)

•     Training institute or programs accredited by the Tertiary and Vocational

Education Commission (TVEC)

•     Government technical colleges

•     Recognized professional organizations (e.g., BCS, IESL, CIMA, CIM, PMI)

•     Three E passes at the Edexcel Advanced GCE Examination

•     Teacher’s Diploma in Information Technology Program (1year), Sri Lanka

Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT)

•     Professional in service English Teacher Training Program (1 year), National

Institute of Education (NIE)

•     Trained Teachers’ Certificate (2 year, full-time), Government Teacher Training

Colleges

•     International Diploma in Computer Studies of NCC EducationUK

Lateral Entry – SLIATE (Full Time)
  • A candidate is considered to have successfully completed all subjects of SLIATE HNDIT (new Curriculum) and the six months (06) training period.
  • A candidate can start the level 3 with the exemption of Level 1 and 2 subjects according to their track.
  • All full time students must pass an aptitude test conducted by CODL to qualify for the programme.
Lateral Entry – SLIATE (Part Time)
  • A candidate is considered to have successfully completed all subjects of SLIATE HNDIT (new curriculum) & must have one year of work experience in a recognized institution after completing HNDIT.
  • A candidate can start the level 3 with exemption of Level 1 and Level 2 subjects according to their track.
  • All part time students must pass an aptitude test conducted by CODL to qualify for the programme.

Lateral Entry – Holder of Diploma in IT of NDT IT – Institute of Technology University of Moratuwa (ITUM)
  • Canditates who have successfully completed all the modules of the NDT curriculum execpt Industrial Training 1 and 2 are eligible to apply and register for the BIT degree programme .However, candidates must successfully complete Industrial Training 1 and 2 and obtain  National Diploma in Technology to qualify for obtaining the degree. 
  • A candidate can start level 3 with exemptions of level 1 and 2 subjects.
  • All students must pass an aptitude test conducted by CODL to qualify for the programme.
